Traveling can be fun, and traveling with a camera can make it an amazing adventure. Whether you are a pro or a novice, finding the best camera bags for travel can actually be stressful. But if you do it the right way, you shouldn’t have to worry about whether your camera and lenses are protected enough, or if carrying your camera for your entire vacation will lead to a sore back.

I love buying camera bags, and I own every single one of these. I have learned some things from each one.

Here are some camera bags and backpacks that can make your next vacation one to remember:

Travelon Women’s Anti-Theft Boho Backpack

This is by far the best investment I have ever made. Before a trip to Italy, I was warned about pick-pockets, especially with a backpack. I did some research and found this brand, which not only has slash-proof material, but also has locking zippers. If you are worried about electronic theft, the backpack also has an RFID blocker.

The backpack is a little smaller than I am used to, but it stops you from packing everything you own and is perfect for exploring all day.

This brand has dozens of products, from purses to bags to backpacks, and they all have similar travel safety features.

SwissGear ZINC Messenger Digital SLR Camera Bag

This was my first camera bag and therefore holds a special place in my heart — we went through a lot of great things together, including me learning how to actually use my camera.

This bag is incredibly spacious, lightweight, and easy to carry. It says it holds two lenses, but I know I fit more in there. It has padding throughout and so protects your camera and lenses as well as any bag can.

Case Logic FLXM-101 Reflexion Cross Body Bag for DSLR

This bag was my absolutely favorite for years. It is not only stylish but has plenty of space for your camera and lenses, and even an iPad. It also has a wire opening so it would be really difficult for anything to crush your camera.

The best part is it also comes with a separate case just for your camera.

Baggallini Hobo Tote

This bag was my camera bag for about three years  — and I carried it everywhere. It’s lightweight, and large enough for a camera and four to six lenses. The only downsides is a shortage of pockets, but it does come with a nice pouch to put all your extra equipment in. Because this is actually supposed to be a purse, and not a camera bag, I would also use it in that capacity.

Because this bag is not an actual camera bag — it has no padding. Because of this, I purchased the next item to hold all my lenses.

I know these bags are not exactly what you think of when you think “camera bag,” but they are really handy little tools when you are worried about the safety of your lenses. They come in all different sizes, so there it is likely there is a size that is right for every lens you have. I collect these from all different brands, so I know that I always have one ready for any lens that needs one.

Even if you have a camera bag with plenty of padding, there is nothing like a peace of mind knowing that your lenses are extra protected.

Steve Madden Bailey Mini Backpack

I am a big Steve Madden fan, so anytime I can use one of his bags, I am on board. Although this bag is also not officially a camera bag, it fits a camera and numerous lenses. The best part about this bag is that it doesn’t look like a camera bag, and is small enough to give your back a break. It is also stylish enough that you can bring it along to a night out.

Calvin Klein City Nylon Back Pack

This camera bag is another bag that is not built as a camera bag, but it works so well that I don’t care. I still use the above smaller bags to hold my lenses, but am planning on a DIY padding insert project soon (stay tuned).

I only recently switched to a backpack for my camera, and could not be happier. I was having serious back problems from carrying my camera around for days any time I traveled, and it’s so nice now to have my back do most the work. This backpack is stylish, very roomy, and has padding throughout — so it’s incredibly comfortable.

Because it’s not an official camera bag, I like to think that no one knows I am carrying my camera, especially when traveling to a foreign country.
